I've installed the 410 big bore cylinder and piston but have now found the timing chain is too short. This is being done with standard Enfield base and head gaskets. Any suggestions welcome.

Be sure the chain is not been able to drop. It has happened before.
It has the ability to hang a couple of links below the crank sprocket and can take a lot of rotating to get it to come free.
The most likely cause IMO.
 
You must be doing something all the others (including 2 of my bikes) are not doing bc our timing chains did fit.
Joking aside, the timing chain is not too short BUT it can seem that way. There was at least one case where someone had a similar experience and it turned out later to have to do with how the chain was fitted at the lower end.
In our video that part was cut out - but in reality even my mechanic fiddled with the chain for an extended time before he got it to fit.
 
You were right. It took turning it over several times in both directions before it came free. Got it all back together and took it out for a short test run around town, all OK. It feels good, just a bit more of everything, and makes the bike much more enjoyable.
